PromptPay is an online banking payment method in Thailand, developed and regulated by the Bank of Thailand (BoT). When using PromptPay, merchants display a QR code to customers, who can then make payments using any application from participating banks. Customers can complete payments by scanning the QR code or uploading a screenshot of the QR code.

To facilitate inter-bank fund transfers, the PromptPay system identifies users through the following methods:

• Mobile phone numbers
• National ID numbers
• Business registration numbers
• Digital wallet numbers

These pieces of information serve as proxy identifiers, allowing users to conveniently and quickly perform inter-bank transfers. PromptPay is designed to simplify the payment process, improve payment efficiency, while ensuring transaction security.
